Drawing inspiration from diverse sources in arts and literature, Skavya's earliest influence was the polymathic genius, Leonardo Da Vinci. Encouraged by her family to explore the realms of science, art, and music, Skavya embarked on a path of self-taught mastery.
Hailing from Hyderabad, SKAvya's upbringing was steeped in classic sounds from Elton John, Elvis Presley, Mariah Carey, and Whitney Houston. Yet, her musical roots dug deep into sufi and ghazal styles, grounding her in the richness of traditional Indian music.
SKAvya’s teenage years were marked by competitive spirit, talent shows, and invaluable mentorship from her father. While her early musical endeavors were marked by covers and small-scale gigs, it wasn't until her late teens that she considered music as more than just a hobby.
Influenced by a myriad of genres, SKAvya's musical journey evolved through phases of rap, hard rock, psychedelic rock, and even reggae. Her solo career blossomed with the release of her first single "dammu" in 2017, a testament to her growing prowess.
Her travels fueled her artistry, leading her to discover a newfound love for reggae and dub culture in Goa. This transformative experience culminated in a performance at the Sunsplash Festival, a moment that forever changed her trajectory.
SKAvya's musical footprint expanded globally as she became the first reggae singjay to record and release international records and vinyls by 2021. Her fusion of jazz and hip-hop, coined as 'jazz-hop', and soul-infused reggae, termed 'soul-reggae', showcases her genre-defying approach.
