FDS TRIO

FDS Trio was born during Sean Play Nice’s first visit from New York to
Barcelona. The three members of the band got together one afternoon to
rehearse and the connection was forged immediately. Frank Durand,
distinguished drummer of the group, brings his knowledge of several
Cuban styles to the table. He elegantly combines the contagious
rhythms of the Afro-Cuban tradition with elements of straight ahead
jazz. Bassist Sean Play Nice comes from the hip-hop background of his
homeland, New York. In addition to holding down the trio's signature
melodic bass lines, Sean provides digital samples that he triggers
from a MIDI controller on his bass; a unique design of his own
creation. Many of his bass lines display an influence rooted in the
reggae tradition. Within the reggae scene in New York he met the last
member and guitarist of the band Diego Cebollero. Diego comes from a
wide spectrum of musical styles including: reggae, funk, jazz and
neo-soul. He incorporates elements of these styles in his very
personal and unique improvisations and interpretations of the melodies
of the songs. The FDS trio is characterized by stimulating collective
improvisations contrasted by ethereal soundscapes that unfold in very
danceable tracks. The goal of the band is to play a new and
spontaneous set of music every time it is performed. The ensemble
combines elements of the members' various influences, the most
prominent being: Miles Davis, Madlib and Herbie Hancock. In many of
their compositions they pay tribute to the legendary jazz fusion
groups of the 60s/70s such as Mwandishi and The Mahavishnu Orchestra.
